Police IG Mutyambai Discharged From Hospital

Mutyambai was discharged from the Aga Khan hospital around 2:30 p.m. on September 1 after responding well to treatment

Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai has been discharged from the hospital where he was admitted on August 25 after becoming ill.

According to sources, Mutyambai was discharged from the Aga Khan hospital around 2:30 p.m. on September 1 after responding well to treatment and will now be monitored from his Karen home.

On Monday, August 28, he was transferred from the High Dependence Unit to the general ward at Aga Khan Hospital after the pressure in his brain had stabilized.

Mutyambai appointed his deputy Noor Gabow as acting Inspector General immediately after his admission.

“This is to inform the general public that I will be away from office attending to a medical check-up effective today. In my absence, Noor Gabow, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Administration, will act as the IG of the National Police Service until my return,” said Mutyambai.

The last time the police chief was seen in public was on July 31, 2022, when the 27-kilometer Nairobi Expressway was inaugurated.

It is unclear what factors were considered in appointing Gabow to the acting position.

Mutyambai is deputized by two Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Police. Kenya police are led by DIG Edward Mbugua.

Gabow is a career police officer who has risen through the ranks to become the AP service’s first DIG from the regular police.
