Police Investigate Night Attacks On Kisumu Trains

Kisumu police have launched investigations after a Kenya Railways train was pelted with stones at Muhoroni on the Kisumu-Nairobi railway line.

Evans Getembe, the officer in charge of Kisumu Railways Police Station, said that the windows of the train had been hit with stones three times recently, putting passengers’ lives in danger.

According to Gatembe, authorities are still attempting to figure out what motivated the suspects to attack the train as it travels from Muhoroni to Kisumu in the morning.

He claims that police have set up ambushes several times in an attempt to apprehend the criminals, but have been unsuccessful, and that they have increased night patrols to combat the crisis.

Getembe said that security personnel have been unable to determine why the train is continually being assaulted with stones, destroying its windows in Muhoroni Sub County.

According to Gatembe, the latest incident occurred between Koru and Kibigori, and no passengers were hurt during the attack.

Getembe says police will not tolerate such sabotage and has issued a harsh warning that they would use all necessary measures to deal with those responsible, stating that the train is an economic asset for the region. They will not tolerate it being harmed.

Last December, Kenya Railways was asked by the Transport Cabinet Secretary to boost the number of trains ferrying passengers and freight to Kisumu to help decrease traffic congestion over the Christmas season.
