Vehicles with campaign materials on the back windscreen may be pulled over for a traffic violation.

In the midst of increased political activity, police officers have expressed alarm over an increase in vehicles, particularly PSVs, carrying campaign material all over the windscreens.

According to Imenti North Police Chief Alexander Makau, such vehicles are breaking the law.

According to section 30 of the traffic laws, every motor vehicle’s windscreen must be kept in such a state that the driver’s vision is not obstructed.

“Every motor vehicle shall be so designed, constructed and used that the driver controlling it has a full view of the road and traffic ahead. The windscreen and windows of every motor vehicle shall be kept free from the application of any material which has, or is capable of having, reflective properties,” reads part of the Act.

Despite the fact that they were aware it was election season, the police chief claimed the act was equal to tinting the rear windscreen and still illegal under the Traffic Act since it posed a safety risk.

Many politicians vying for various seats have chosen to popularize themselves by having posters displayed on the back windscreens of vehicles operating various routes..
