Police: Kisumu Heist Robbers ‘Walked Away’

Four robbers who held siege at an Equity Bank hall in Kisumu may have escaped.

Magu Mutindika, the Nyanza Regional Commissioner, told the press that the criminals must have changed clothes before fleeing unnoticed.

When the bank’s personnel and customers were evacuated, the four disguised themselves as customers, according to the area police chief.

The suspects allegedly flashed a threatening note to a bank teller with the message that they could get an undisclosed amount of money.

Earlier, Nyanza police chief Karanja Muiruri revealed that criminals inside the bank threw teargas at the cops, delaying their operation to foil a theft.

A quick inspection revealed that the tear gas canisters did not belong to the police, and Muiruri stated that an investigation was underway to determine the origins of the tear gas canisters.

According to a statement, the National Police Service no money was stolen in the afternoon ordeal.

The event was reported by police officers assigned to the facility’s security. The threat was successfully contained once a team of APS, DCI, and KPS arrived.

“All customers have been safely evacuated and will undergo screening as investigations, which will include extraction of CCTV footage from the facility.”
