Police in Kilifi have been ordered to arrest people masquerading as prophets. County commissioner Kutswa Olaka said his aim is to make sure there is sanity in spreading God s words.
Mr Olaka said the false prophets have become the excuse of the Killings of elderly people for allegedly being witchcraft.
Speaking at Kauma deputy commissioners ground during the issuing of relief food to more than 300 people,Kutswa said that those prophet are taking advantage of the illiteracy in the county to lure them.
He warned the locals against engaging in such activities adding that if they were found, they would be arrested and taken to court.
The commissioner acknowledged the Shanzu law court and Mombasa high court for issuing a very deserving sentence to the court found guilty, adding that the same will be done to those who will be found guilty of killing the elderly people.
Mr Kutswa said last week an elderly man was killed at Gede village in Kilifi for suspected witchcraft following the death of a child who died due to COVID-19 19 virus.
Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna warned the residents against the vice adding that the time has come for the community to embrace education.
Speaking at Kauma during the distribution of relief food,Oguna also lauded the order made by Kilifi county commissioner Kutswa Olaka to arrest the false prophets.
He said the false prophet is just conning the people and more so causing deaths to the elderly people.
Kilifi county is among the counties leading with cases of elderly killings in the country.
