Police in Mombasa are looking for a suspect in a robbery with violence who fled from detention while being arraigned in court on Monday.
After his bail was cancelled, the suspect, Ngalaa Hassan, who is facing assault and robbery with violence charges in Likoni, fled by hopping over the Mombasa Law Court’s fence.
Hassan, who had been released on bond, was re-arrested and produced in court on Monday for failing to attend court sessions, prompting the judge to revoke his bail.
Following the delivery of the judgement setting aside his bail, the suspect is said to have sought to use the restroom due to a desire to relieve himself. He was taken to the bathrooms’ door, where he was uncuffed and permitted to enter.
Shortly after, the accused burst out of the bathroom and shoved the police officer who was standing outside the door to the ground. The police officer’s attempts to raise an alert and fire at the suspect were unsuccessful because the culprit had already escaped.
The accused leaped over the fence and vanished.
