The National Police Service (NPS) has launched a multi-agency operation to arrest cattle rustlers who killed 11 people in an ambush on Saturday.
Eight officers, two civilians and a local chief are said to be among the victims of the violence in Turkana county.
According to NPS, the operation aims to arrest the perpetrators, recover the stolen animals and firearms and return normalcy to the area.
“A multi-agency security operation today has been launched in the area to arrest the perpetrators, recover the stolen animals and firearms and return normalcy to the area,” reads a statement by NPS.
It urged people to offer information that may lead to the arrest of the gang and recovery of the stolen animals.
The bodies of the officers killed in Saturday’s bandit attack in Turkana East arrived in Nairobi Sunday evening. They were flown in a police chopper to the Wilson Airport and taken to Forces Memorial Hospital mortuary, Nairobi.
The victims were ambushed as they pursued heavily armed bandits suspected to be from the neighbouring Baringo county.
