A police officer shot himself dead on Monday night at a police station in Murang’a County.
The officer, a constable, was found dead in his house within Nyakianga police station.
His colleagues said they heard a loud gunshot coming from the officer’s house and when they rushed to investigate, they found his body lying on the bed.
“He lived alone in his house and had not shown any signs of disturbance,” his colleagues said.
According to a police report, the officer shot himself through the mouth and the bullet exited through the back of his head.
Three spent cartridges were found at the scene as police said they were investigating what might have led the officer to take his own life.
The officer’s body was transferred to Kiria-ini Mission Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
