Police Officer Shot Dead In Kisumu Shootout

On Friday morning, a police constable was shot dead by a suspected gangster in Nyakach, Kisumu county.

The DCI officer was part of a Kisumu-based team that had been dispatched to track down the suspect after receiving a tip.

According to a police report, the suspect was at a rental property in Pap Onditi.

According to the incident report, three DCI officers and other Nyakach officers set up an ambush to apprehend the suspect, who is suspected of committing a series of robberies in Kisumu, Homabay, and Migori counties.

However, the suspect is said to have started shooting at officers indiscriminately.

During the incident, two officers were injured. One was shot in the left hand, while the other was shot in the thigh and chest.

“The officers engaged with the suspect in a shootout but he managed to escape with gunshot wounds,” the report read.

The officers have been admitted to Kisumu’s Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH). According to the police incident report, they are in stable condition.

The slain officer’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

The manhunt for the suspect is still ongoing.
