On Friday, June 2, five days after DP Gachagua ordered a regional crackdown on illicit brew, the National Police Service raided a home in Nandi East Sub-County, arresting a businessman with over 6,000 bottles of illegal brew.
The man was operating the illegal business in his house despite a crackdown on illicit brew launched by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“On June 2, 2023, a multi-agency team from Nandi East Sub-County seized 344 cartons (6,885 bottles) of suspected second-generation alcohol brand) from the home of a businessman who was also arrested during the raid.”
“We appreciate the public’s continued support through information sharing,” the NPS stated.
On Monday, May 29, Gachagua visited the area and directed all leaders, administrators, and security officers to crack down on anyone selling illegal drinks to children.
In a meeting he held with the region’s administrators, the team agreed to review the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, 2010, and regulations to provide a formula for determining the maximum number of alcoholic outlets in a given area.
