Police recover 14 Illegal firearms, 51 rounds of ammunition in Baringo

The intelligence-led crackdown targeted known hotspots in both Baringo and Turkana counties, which have long been affected by banditry and cattle rustling.

In a significant security operation on February 2, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) successfully recovered 14 illegal firearms and 51 rounds of ammunition in Baringo and Turkana counties.

The intelligence-led crackdown targeted known hotspots in both Baringo and Turkana counties, which have long been affected by banditry and cattle rustling.

Security officers seized 14 rifles—described as a critical step in disrupting armed criminal networks—alongside the 51 live rounds.

This latest success follows a separate operation on January 30, 2026, where another 13 illegal firearms and 22 bullets were recovered in Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

The NPS emphasized that these operations are part of a sustained multi-agency effort to restore order in the North Rift region and rebuild community confidence.

Authorities continue to urge residents to volunteer information on suspicious activities or surrender illicit weapons to support the ongoing “Operation Maliza Uhalifu” initiative.
