Police Recover 35 Stolen Sheep, Arrest Suspect in Laikipia North

Police in Laikipia North have recovered 35 stolen sheep and arrested one suspect following a coordinated multi-agency security operation.

The recovery was made yesterday in the Chumvi area after officers from Buuri West Sub-County in Meru County launched a targeted operation led by the Sub-County Police Commander.

The raid was prompted by reports from two livestock owners who had separately lost animals to theft.

During the operation, the stolen livestock was successfully traced and secured, and a suspect was apprehended at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the suspect is in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized.

The National Police Service (NPS) commended the swift action of the officers and reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying similar operations across the country.

Police emphasized that the crackdown on livestock theft is part of broader security measures to protect lives, livelihoods, and property, particularly in pastoral and rural communities where livestock remains a key economic resource.

The latest operation highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks engaged in livestock theft, a persistent challenge in parts of northern Kenya. Security agencies have urged the public to continue reporting incidents promptly to enable rapid response and recovery.
