A coordinated security operation has successfully recovered 77 cattle stolen from two residents of Tigania East in Meru County, authorities confirmed.

The operation, conducted at around 11:00 p.m., involved officers from Kangeta Police Station, the General Service Unit (GSU), the Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), and National Police Reservists. The response followed a theft report lodged at Kangeta Police Station, prompting a swift deployment to track the suspects.

The team intercepted the cattle rustlers near Ngato Dam. A gunfight ensued during the confrontation, but officers were able to subdue the suspects and recover all the stolen livestock without any losses.

The recovered cattle were transported to Ndomuru Police Station, where the owners positively identified all 77 animals.

The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining such collaborative operations to protect lives, property, and livelihoods in the region.
