Police recover Ksh4.6m worth of bhang in Kilifi

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives in Kilifi County on Thursday intercepted a vehicle ferrying 155 kilograms of bhang, valued at approximately Ksh.4.7 million, in the Mtondia area along the Kilifi-Malindi Road.

Acting on intelligence reports, the detectives stopped a Subaru Exiga, Reg. No. 259K, and upon inspection found seven sacks of bhang inside the vehicle.

“Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) officers from Malindi were called to weigh the substance and take over the case. The total weight was 155 kilograms with a street value of Ksh.4,650,000,” said the DCI in a statement on X.

The occupants of the vehicle fled before the police could apprehend them.

“When signaled to stop, the occupants bolted from the vehicle, vanishing into a nearby thicket,” said the DCI.

A manhunt for them is currently underway.

The recovered narcotics and vehicle have since been taken Malindi Police Station for documentation.
