A police firearm that was stolen from Jogoo police station in Nairobi four years ago was yesterday recovered at a botched robbery in Ruaka where two suspects were also gunned down.
The Ceska pistol had been issued by a police officer but was stolen from his house on February 20, 2018.
Police yesterday encountered the armed men who were targeting a supermarket in Ruaka prompting a shootout that saw two of the suspects killed. A police officer was shot and injured in the neck.
The two slain suspects are reported to have arrived at the area aboard two motorcycles before advancing towards the supermarket, on foot.
The firearm had been in the hands of criminals for almost four years with ballistic experts linking it to various robberies in the city, including a string of robberies targeting supermarkets in Nairobi and Kiambu counties.
The ballistic examination is to establish if the firearm had been used in some of the robberies reported in the city and its environs.
The Ceska pistol was stolen from Jogoo police station staff quarters while loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
