Police Recover Stolen Livestock in Elgeyo Marakwet and Samburu Counties

Security operations in Elgeyo Marakwet and Samburu counties have led to the successful recovery of stolen livestock, as police intensify efforts to curb cattle rustling and related crimes.

In Kowow Sub-Location, Elgeyo Marakwet County, police acted swiftly on intelligence reports and recovered a number of stolen animals. The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the operation on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, noting that the livestock were returned to their rightful owners in a formal handover witnessed by the local chief.

“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to combating cattle rustling and related crimes through enhanced intelligence gathering, timely response operations, and strengthened collaboration with local communities and security agencies,” said the NPS in a statement.

A similar operation in Samburu East Sub-County also yielded significant results. Acting on reports of livestock theft by armed bandits in the Kabache area of Mutuati Sub-County, police launched a pursuit operation. The suspects were intercepted and overpowered in the Kamanga area, leading to the recovery of 15 cows and 30 goats. The recovered animals are now awaiting formal identification and handover to their owners.

These successful operations underscore the police’s ongoing strategy to tackle cattle rustling through rapid response, community cooperation, and increased patrols in high-risk areas.
