A recruit constable on training at the country’s premier police training college has been dismissed and slapped with a charge of assault, after attacking his squad leader with a slasher.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident was reported at the National Police College Main Campus – Kiganjo, and the recruit whose course is nearing completion in less than 2 months, lost his job and is staring at a court case on account of indiscipline.
Trouble started for the conscript identified as Imbenzi Paul, after he failed to collect litter as instructed by his squad leader, during last Friday’s morning fatigue.
“A brief argument ensued before the suspect reached for the crucial course man’s implement used in clearing long grass and inflicted an injury on the squad leader’s head, in an incident that shocked the entire college,” the DCI said.
“In a disciplined institution where civilians are shaped into disciplined police officers after going through various rigorous stages of moulding, this case was a shocker not heard in Kiganjo in recent times!”
The suspect was arrested and detained at Kiganjo Police Station where he was booked for assault while awaiting to be arraigned in court to answer to his crimes as the slasher used in the incident was kept as an exhibit.
Meanwhile, the recruit who was assaulted was treated at the college dispensary and discharged in fair condition.
