Police Seize 10,000 Litres Of Illicit Brew In Nyahururu

Security agencies in Nyahururu and its environs have increased their efforts to apprehend those responsible for illicit brew in the area.

On Tuesday, over 10,000 litres of Kangara brew were seized. The brew had been buried in containers at a Maina village house.

Security officers acting on a tip-off from members of the public were able to seize and destroy the brew, according to the local administration, led by Nyahururu Deputy County Commissioner Muthike Ndambuki and Maina location Chief Joseph Muraya.

However, the suspects involved in the trade escaped the police net.

Ndambuki expressed regret that the brew appeared to have been covered with dirty cloths, the purpose of which was not immediately clear, and that the brew was intended for sale to unsuspecting customers.

He expressed regret that the illegal brew was being sold to young people who should be in school or doing meaningful activities.

Ndambuki called on local communities to work with the government to eradicate the vice.

Area chief Joseph Muraya Waithaka echoed his sentiments, challenging residents to provide information that could lead to the arrest of those behind the trade.

While residents applaud the government’s commitment to combating the brewing and sale of illicit spirits, they want the government to provide alternative activities such as the “Kazi mtaani program” to help young people find profitable ventures rather than engaging in alcohol consumption.
