Police Step Up Crackdown on Drug Traffickers and Muggers in Mtwapa

The fight against crime in Mtwapa intensified after police officers arrested four suspects linked to drug trafficking and mugging during a security operation on September 9.

The intelligence-led crackdown, conducted by officers from Mtwapa Police Station, targeted the Kipapuro and Mzambarauni areas on the outskirts of the busy coastal town. During the swoop, police seized 55 rolls of cannabis believed to be destined for distribution in the local market.

The suspects were taken into custody at Mtwapa Police Station, where they are being held pending arraignment in court. The recovered drugs have been secured as exhibits to support prosecution.

The National Police Service (NPS) reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating narcotics and curbing violent crimes, urging residents to work closely with law enforcement by sharing timely information on suspicious activities.

Authorities say the operation is part of a broader campaign to restore safety in Mtwapa, a town that has grappled with rising incidents of drug abuse and violent robberies in recent years.
