Police in Bungoma South have intensified their fight against illegal drugs after a successful raid that led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of large amounts of cannabis and contraband cigarettes.
The operation was carried out by officers from Bungoma Police Station under the leadership of the Sub-County Police Commander.
Acting on information from members of the public, police stormed a property in the area and seized about 30 rolls of bhang, an unrolled bundle of cannabis weighing 12 kilograms, and 39,000 sticks of uncustomed cigarettes.
The suspects are being held in custody and will be charged in court. Police say the recovered items are being processed as evidence. Investigations are ongoing to find out where the drugs and cigarettes came from and to break the wider supply chain.
Speaking after the raid, the Sub-County Police Commander praised residents for sharing information that helped in the crackdown. He urged the public to continue working with police to stop drug dealers who are destroying lives, especially among the youth.
Drug abuse has become a growing concern in Bungoma and across the country, with many young people falling victim to addiction. Authorities say such operations are part of a wider effort to protect communities and ensure offenders face the law.
Police have promised more raids in the coming days as they move to clean up Bungoma South and make the area safer for all residents.
