A police officer was shot and killed in an ambush by gunmen in the Qubi Kalo area of Marsabit county.
Constable Brian Leyian was killed after being hit in the head during an ambush Wednesday morning.
Another officer and an eight-year-old boy were injured in the attack, which also resulted in the theft of over 1,000 animals.
The boy was shot in the head and flown to Nairobi for specialized care, while the officer was taken to Marsabit Referral Hospital with chest injuries and later flown to Nairobi.

Laisamis MP Joseph Lekuton and his Saku counterpart Dido Ali Raso both condemned the incident and demanded immediate action to halt the attacks.
Mohamud Ali, the area governor, also condemned the incident, saying residents were tired of insecurity incidents in which hundreds of people lost their lives and livelihoods while criminals went unpunished.
He urged the government to strengthen security and eliminate illegal firearms in the region.
“If the bandits can kill the security officer dispatched by the government to protect the people and their properties, how safe are the residents?” he posed.
Lekuton urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement in order to bring criminals to justice.
According to County Commissioner Paul Rotich, 52 animals were recovered in an operation on Wednesday, and the search for the remaining livestock is still ongoing.
