Igathe Poised For Nairobi Governor

Former Equity Chief Commercial Officer Polycarp Igathe is said to be the ruling Jubilee party’s choice for the Nairobi governorship.

According to sources familiar with the situation, Igathe is now expected to be announced as the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya alliance candidate for City’s top seat.

This comes just hours after Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi announced that the coalition’s flagbearer will be announced on Thursday.
Wanyonyi stated that the party has been debating who should be appointed to the county’s top position.

The two-term MP had previously confirmed to the Star that he had a meeting on Tuesday morning at State House.

The meeting’s agenda, he said, was focused on Nairobi succession politics.

Because of the spirited fight put up by other aspirants eyeing the Governor seat, Igathe’s endorsement for the City’s top seat is likely to cause political cracks in the Azimio Coalition.

Richard Ngatia, businesswoman Agnes Kagure, and Nairobi governor Anne Kananu are among the Jubilee candidates vying for the governorship.
