The Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, has appointed the Right Reverend Simon Peter Kamomoe as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wote, confirming the shepherd who has been guiding the young diocese as Apostolic Administrator since March 2026.
The announcement was communicated by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Bert Van Megen, who wrote: “Pope Leo XIV has appointed the Right Reverend Simon Peter Kamomoe, presently Auxiliary Bishop and Apostolic Administrator of Wote, as Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wote.”
The appointment was officially made public on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 1 p.m. in Kenya and 12 p.m. in Rome.
Bishop Kamomoe has been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Wote since March 2026, following his appointment by the Dicastery for Evangelization after the illness of the first Bishop of Wote, the Right Reverend Paul Kariuki Njiru.
Since assuming leadership in Wote, Bishop Kamomoe has continued to strengthen diocesan structures, support priests and religious, and encourage the faithful to remain rooted in hope, unity, and mission. His appointment now offers stability and continuity to the growing diocese as it continues laying foundations for evangelization, Catholic education, youth formation, and social outreach.
Before his transfer to Wote, Bishop Kamomoe served as Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi and was ordained bishop in 2023.
The Catholic Diocese of Wote, created in July 2021 from the Catholic Diocese of Machakos, continues to grow in evangelization, education, and pastoral outreach across Makueni County and neighboring regions.
