Power Thief Nabbed: Notorious Transformer Vandal Arrested in Sotik

Police officers at Kapletundo Police Station have arrested Hassan Kipkurui Rotich, a notorious suspect linked to the destruction of Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) transformers in Sotik and surrounding areas.

Acting on a tip-off, officers swiftly responded to an ongoing transformer vandalism incident, catching Rotich red-handed.

Upon interrogation, the suspect revealed details of two additional transformers he had previously vandalized with an accomplice, Collins Kibet, who remains at large.

The damaged transformers, located in Chepkosa and Cheptigit villages, were rendered nonfunctional, affecting power supply in the region.

Rotich, along with recovered evidence, has been taken to Kapletundo Police Station, where he is undergoing processing pending his arraignment in court.

Authorities have intensified efforts to track down Kibet and ensure he faces justice.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reiterated its warning against vandalizing key infrastructure, emphasizing that such crimes will be met with severe legal consequences.

The agency urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to electricity infrastructure.

Cases of transformer vandalism have been on the rise, causing massive losses to KPLC and disrupting essential services.

Authorities continue to call on communities to cooperate in safeguarding public utilities to prevent further economic sabotage.

The suspect is expected to be charged with destruction of critical infrastructure and economic sabotage, offenses that carry severe penalties under Kenyan law.
