United Democratic Alliance Leaders in Kilifi County have hailed President-Elect William Ruto for his victory and called upon him to deliver his manifesto as promised in the campaigns.
Led by Kilifi Speaker Jimmy Kahindi together with some candidates who vied for different seats on a UDA ticket but lost in the August 9 General Election the leaders said they had confidence in Ruto’s leadership and assured residents of Kilifi and Kenyans at large to get prepared for prosperity during his tenure.
Addressing a press conference outside the County Assembly Chambers Kahindi said they were happy to be celebrating the victory of the president-elect which was historical.
“We are happy to be celebrating as residents of Kilifi, we thank God because all that our president William Ruto has gone through is by the grace of God who has enabled him to succeed,” he said.
Kahindi called on Kenyans to pray for the President-Elect because he is taking over a government during difficult economic times adding that what lies ahead of him is tough.
The Speaker said it’s time all Kenyans ditched their political differences and unite as one so as to deliver.
“I have confidence that he is going to deliver his manifesto, I have no problem about it now my brothers of Kilifi. I want us to prepare because God willing on September 13 he will be sworn in as the fifth president of Kenya and we will be there celebrating,” he said.
Kahindi thanked Former Governor Amason Kingi and Former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa who together worked hard to support the President during campaigns.
The Speaker was accompanied by Malindi constituency UDA Candidate Daniel Chiriba, Woman Rep Candidate Juliet Riziki, Rabai constituency UDA candidate Phillip Mbaji and his Magarini counterpart Stanley Kenga among others.
Chiriba also hailed Ruto for his victory after being confirmed as the president-elect.
“I would like to thank God for enabling Ruto to become the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya. I would also like to assure you that the way we stood with you as a team, due to the excitement we still stand by you,” he said.
Chiriba urged the president to ensure he delivers the promises he made for the first 100 days as he believed that he would serve for two terms and Kilifi people and Kenyans at large shall rip big from his leadership.
On her part, Riziki said Ruto has made history by being elected as president in Kenya.
She reminded the president-elect to ensure he fulfills the promises he made to Kenyans, particularly on the issue of women.
“When we were at Kasarani we signed the women’s charter and there was an agreement that upon forming his government women would be given a 50/50 chance, now that he has won we remind him that we are watching him,” he said.
The Woman Rep candidate also called on the president to make sure the third gender rule is implemented in the first 100 days adding that there were abled women who are ready to work with him.
Mbaji, a UDA parliamentary candidate in Rabai said Ruto’s victory has brought hope to the Coastal people who voted for him and got many votes for the first time in an area that was regarded as a stronghold for his competitor Raila Odinga.
“Now that he is going to the state house we pray that the expectations of Coastal people including the economy, Port services will be brought back immediately for people to get jobs,” he said.
Mbaji also urged the President to appoint a cabinet Secretary who will have the will of reviving tourism in the Coast.
He told the president to compensate all coconut farmers in the Coast region who have suffered due to drought disaster.
Stanley Kenga who lost the Magarini parliamentary seat also emphasized the need for the president to implement his manifesto fully so as to address the problems faced by Kenyans by reviving the economy and creating jobs.
