Residents of Uasin Gishu County defy rains to celebrate the victory of one of their own sons, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party presidential candidate, William Samoei Ruto.
The former Eldoret North MP was declared the President-Elect by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The crowd, drawn from all Sub-Counties in the County and neighboring counties to Uasin Gishu, marched from street to street, singing and chanting both traditional and Swahili gospel songs.
The crowds of UDA supporters who had gathered in the town center since early morning appeared unfazed by the IEBC’s decision to postpone the announcement of the presidential results until the evening, as they expressed confidence in the historic election to produce the country’s fifth in command since independence.
They preached for peace in the country while singing patriotic songs to encourage every Kenyan to avoid any act that could lead to violence.
David Waihiga Mwaure of the Agano Party, George Wajackoyah of the Roots Party, Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja, and William Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza Coalition ran for president in 2022.
