At least 14 MPs have been nominated for state prizes ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kirinyaga on October 20.
Jeremiah Ndombi and Serah Kioko, deputy clerks in the National Assembly, have been nominated for the Elder of the Order of Burning Spear (EBS) award.
Margaret Nyakang’o, the Controller of the Budget, is also a candidate for the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear award, alongside the legislators.
For exceptional services, the CBS award is granted to public luminaries, exemplary members of the public service, and other professionals.
MPs Peter Mwathi (Limuru), Silas Tiren (Moiben), Ezekiel Machogu (Nyaribari Masaba), Muturi Kigano (Kangema), Swarup Mishra (Kesses), Robert Mbui (Kathiani), Janet Ongera (Kisii WR), Mishi Mboko (Likoni), and Ben Momanyi (Borabu) are among National Assembly members poised to get the award.
Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, his Kiambu counterpart Kimani Wamatangi, Fred Outa (Kisumu), nominated Senators Beatrice Kwamboka and Alice Milgo are on the shortlist.
The prizes are also open to anybody who has made a significant contribution to the country in the economic, social, scientific, academic, public administration, governance, sports, media, business, security, or other disciplines
State officers who have made outstanding contributions to the improvement of the national or county governments, the executive, the judiciary, the legislature, an independent commission, or an independent office are also considered.
In a notification issued on Friday, the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee requested that Kenyans express their opinions on the nominations and file objections where appropriate.
