President William Ruto scrapped off Kazi Mtaani Programme that was started during the tenure of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking at the groundbreaking of Soweto East Zone B Social Housing, Kibra, Nairobi County, the Head-of-State vowed to include the youth to contribute towards the affordable housing plan in the country through the Juakali industry.
“Kazi Mtaani is outdated now, the work now is building these houses, and the first people to get jobs in this project will be from Kibra,” Ruto stated.
“The housing programme is not just about houses, it also gives us an opportunity for employment.”
Ruto added that the number of youths being employed under the Kazi mtaani program was minimal.
“Those who were employed in Kazi Mtaani were 500 from each ward, through this programme, we will have employment opportunities for 2500 youths,” he said.
He also stated that housing programs will be implemented in many other areas because everyone deserves a decent place to live.
“We want to make this programme a reality, we want every Kenyan to own a decent home, I have talked with governors from various counties to start sparing land that we will use on affordable housing as we want to change the faces of all cities in Kenya.”
The Head of State stated that the government is committed to rehabilitating the country’s informal settlements. He reassured residents that the program would not fail again.
