President Ruto Appoints Allies To Key Gov’t Positions

    President William Ruto has made a batch of new appointments including a section of politicians who lost in the August 2022 elections to the boards of various State corporations.

    Jack Ranguma, Cleophas Lagat, Charles Njagua Jaguar, Nelson Havi, Daniel Rono, Yusuf Chanzu, Sakwa Bunyasi, Lily Ng’ok, and Beatrice Kones have all been appointed to chair various boards.

    Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has been appointed as the Chairperson of the SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority for a three-year term. Cooperative CS Simon Chelugui confirmed the appointment.

    Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi was appointed as Chairperson of the Retirement Benefits Authority’s Board of Directors (RBA).

    The appointment was announced by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u in a notice dated Friday, February 10. Havi was appointed to the board for a three-year term.

    Sakwa Bunyasi, a former Nambale MP, has been appointed Chairperson of the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Board. He was appointed by the Head of State for a three-year term.

    After the President revoked the appointment of Mary Chao Mwadime, Daniel Rono was named Chairperson of the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) board for three years.

    The Treasury CS appointed former Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones to the board of the Local Authorities Provident Fund. She will also serve for the next three years. Haro Guyo Okola’s appointment was revoked by the Treasury CS.

    Former Vihiga MP Yusuf Chanzu has been appointed Chair of the National Housing Corporation board.

    Shaka Kariuki (Competition Authority), Edick Omondi (Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority), Robert Theuri (Kenya Library Services), and Jane Kiptoo (Bomas of Kenya) were also named board chairpersons.

    Cleophas Lagat (Rivatex East Africa Ltd), Hussein Tene (Kenya National Trading Corporation), Sally Njambi (Kenya Investment Authority), and Beatrice Kones (Local Authorities Provident Fund) were also appointed as chairpersons of the respective institutions.
