President Ruto Appoints Florence Bore as Ambassador in Foreign Service Shakeup

President William Ruto has nominated former Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore as Kenya’s ambassador to Windhoek, Namibia, in a major reshuffle of the Foreign Service. The changes, announced on Friday, August 15, include 20 appointments and redeployments aimed at optimising performance and enhancing service delivery, according to State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.

Bore, who was dropped as Cabinet Secretary following the 2024 Gen Z protests, has a long political career. She began her journey in 2012 after resigning as a teacher and unsuccessfully contesting the Kericho County Woman Representative seat.

She later served as Bomet County’s Director of Education in charge of Vocational Training until 2015, and was subsequently appointed to the Geothermal Development Company board, overseeing the Human Resource Committee.

Bore won the Kericho Woman Representative seat in 2017 and served until 2022, participating in committees on Welfare, Facilities, Sports, Tourism and Culture, and Budgetary Appropriation.

In addition to Bore, President Ruto nominated several other High Commissioners and ambassadors, including Galma Mukhe Boru to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Anthony Mwaniki Muchiri to Ankara, Turkey; Lucy Kiruthu to Bangkok, Thailand; Henry Wambuma to Bujumbura, Burundi; and Catherine Kirumba Karemu to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Other notable appointments include George Morara Orina to Dublin, Abdirashid Salat Abdille to Jakarta, Maurice Odhiambo Makoloo to London, and Joseph Musyoka Masila to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The nominations also cover Consul Generals and Deputy Heads of Mission in key diplomatic posts across Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The President has submitted the nominations to the National Assembly for consideration and approval, in line with the Constitution, signaling a strategic push to strengthen Kenya’s diplomatic representation abroad.
