President William Ruto has asked all police recruits who graduated this week to plant at least 30 trees during their month-long break.
There are 1,998 Administrative Police and 2,881 police constables among the recruits.
The president also urged all security agencies in Nairobi to plant more than 30 million trees in support of his initiative to green the capital.
He spoke during the 58th Administration Police Passing Out Parade at the National Police College Embakasi A Campus on Wednesday.
Ruto directed Kenya Forest Service to provide seedlings to government security forces to assist the county in changing the Nairobi landscape.
“I am asking each one of you to plant at least 30 trees each. I have asked the commandant of this campus (Embakasi A) and the one at the GSU campus and all those working in our security here in Nairobi to plant 30 million trees,” said the President.
Ruto presided over the graduation of police constable recruits at the National Police College-Main Campus in Kiganjo on Tuesday, January 10.
More than 5,000 police graduates will be released this week to serve after completing a nine-month training programme at various National Police Service training colleges. If they all follow the president’s directive, the country could see an additional 150,000 trees planted within the next month.
The President has already stated his intention to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
On his 56th birthday, December 21, Ruto planted 56 trees at Ngong Hills Forest, while other counties held similar functions, resulting in a total of 560,000 trees planted.
