President William Ruto has today assented to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Amendments Bill 2024 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
The head of State assented to the bill in an event attended by members of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) comprising members of the ruling Kenya Kwanya coalition and the Azimio One Kenya.
The elections amendments bill is among nine bills developed during the NADCO meetings and will establish a selection panel for the nomination of IEBC commissioners.
President Ruto noted that the spirit of NADCO is a spirit of National Cohesion and Consensus on issues affecting the country.
The head of state called upon members of the National Assembly and the Senate to expedite the implementation of recommendations contained in the NADCO report.
In his address, ODM Leader Raila Odinga called upon President Ruto to consider and tailor government decisions to incorporate the plight of Kenyans.
President Ruto welcomed a broad-based approach to steering the country forward, welcoming leaders from across the political divide to dialogue and propel the country forward.
Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka noted a number of challenges during the formulation of the NADCO report, calling on the Head of State to consider the cost of living and heed the plight of Gen Z and Millenials in the country.
He called for leaders to juxtapose the remaining eight NADCO recommendations with the current reality of the country.
Kalonzo called for a spirit of consultation between President Ruto and Odinga on the nomination of the new IEBC chairperson.
