President William Ruto on Wednesday presented a charter to the Riara University in a ceremony held at State House, Nairobi and attended by founders Daniel Gachukia and Eddah Gachukia.
Speaking during the event, Ruto commended the two saying said they had earned this moment because of their progress.
Noting he was happy to be part of the history of the institution, the Head of State explained that he arrived at the event at the stipulated time but was informed that it could not begin.
“I was told that Daniel and Professor Gachuki have not arrived and I said with age, you can get away with anything and there was no way this function would be postponed,” he said.
“I a very proud that today in a very small way, I am happy that I have become part of your history by the honour that you have received and by signing this charter.”
Ruto said the government will be at hand to support and assist the university.
President Ruto also awarded the two founders with Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS).
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos added that Riara University is now poised to further its mission of empowering lives and impacting communities
“This new status will enable the institution to expand its programmes, enhance its research capabilities and continue to produce graduates who are ready to meet the challenges of our dynamic world,” he noted.
A university charter is the highest level of certification for universities in Kenya.
Riara achieved the esteemed status under the guidance of the Commission for University Education (CUE).
The varsity has been operating under a Letter of Interim Authority awarded by the Commission for University Education (CUE) on August 2, 2012.
