President William Ruto has continued to dismantle some of the structures and routines established at State House by his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
A day after Mr Kenyatta left office, the identity of the State House media outlet appeared to have changed.
Mr Kenyatta’s media team was recognized as the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU), but the name was changed by the fifth president.
However, press releases shared by Dr. Ruto’s press team now bear the initials PPS (Presidential Press Service).
Former Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi both used PPS.
It is worth noting, however, that as Deputy President, Dr. Ruto kept the name DPPS (Deputy Presidential Press Services) for his media team.
Also, Mr Kenyatta’s photos were shared but watermarked with the State House logo during key functions at State House, both in and out of the country.
After only a month in office, not a single photo of President Ruto shared through official channels has been watermarked.
President Ruto traveled to Ethiopia for a state function on Thursday, accompanied by key members of his government.
The president’s press team provided the editors with photos of the president and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed that were not watermarked.
Furthermore, President Ruto’s administration has ensured that whenever the president attends a key function, the event is live-streamed on social media, particularly on Facebook and Twitter, where the president has a large following.
The live streams are available on the State House and his personal channels.
Dr. Ruto used social media to reach out to his supporters even during his campaigns.
In contrast, retired President Kenyatta shut down all of his personal social media accounts.
