President Ruto Describes His Friendship With Raila

The president recalled his political journey with Raila before they fell out following the 2007 General Election.

President William Ruto has described his new friendship structure with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whom he refers to as a long-time ally.

During a tour of Mfangano Island in Homa Bay County, the President referred to Raila as “his person,” indicating a newfound understanding between the two.

He went on to say that his 2022 General Election victory would benefit him, Raila supporters, and all Kenyans and that he would work with all politicians to ensure his legacy was secure.

To the delight of the audience, the president recalled his political journey with Raila before they fell out following the 2007 General Election.

He claimed that he lobbied for Raila to be named Prime Minister in the late President Mwai Kibaki’s 2010 Grand Coalition Government.

“At that time I was a Raila person. However, since I became President, Raila has become my person. Is there any problem with that?” he stated.

On the other hand, he maintained that all Kenyans would be treated and served equally in his government, allaying any fears of the Nyanza being excluded from his development agenda.

“I want to assure Nyanza residents that they, like all Kenyans, will be served by the government.”

There will be no discrimination in Kenya based on party or political affiliation. “Kenya is one, and we will work for all Kenyans.” “There is no one in the opposition in Kenya; opposition ends after the elections,” he stated.
