President Ruto Hosts Murang’a County Grassroots Leaders

President William Ruto on Friday, September 12, hosted grassroots leaders from Murang’a County in a meeting at State House, Nairobi.

The delegation was led by Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina and attended by among others, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

The meeting also brought together Nominated MP Sabina Chege, former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Nominated Senator Veronica Maina and Maragua MP Mary Wamaua.

In his address, Ruto dismissed divisive politics, insisting that Kenya’s future lies in unity and visionary leadership.

“There is no longer any room in Kenya for tribalistic and retrogressive politics that enrich a few at the expense of the many. We are charting a new course; one of bold, visionary leadership that transforms lives and unites our nation,” he said.

Ruto highlighted government investment in Murang’a County, saying the development projects are designed to directly benefit ordinary citizens.

“I was delighted to share with grassroots leaders from Murang’a County the tangible progress of our development agenda. We have allocated Ksh23 billion for the construction of 10,300 affordable houses, Ksh3.5 billion to upgrade roads, Ksh2.3 billion for the development of 23 modern markets, and Ksh3 billion for new student hostels,” he added.

Ruto further outlined plans to boost entrepreneurship and infrastructure in the region, noting that the government remains committed to inclusive growth.

“To accelerate entrepreneurship and inclusive growth, more than 10,000 households will be connected to electricity by December through our ambitious Sh850 million electrification project.

“We have also committed to build two modern stadiums worth over Ksh1.5 billion and to connect Kangema, Mathioya, Kiharu, and Kandara to clean water under a Ksh2.4 billion water project,” he further said.

The meeting comes barely a day after Kisii Governor Simba Arati on Thursday, September 11, led a delegation of Gusii political leaders to State House for a high-profile meeting with Ruto.

The meeting was also attended by ODM Party leader Raila Odinga, Education Cabinet Secretary Ogamba Migosi, and Solicitor General Shadrack Mose.

Ruto described the occasion as an opportunity to roll out projects that will directly impact the lives of the people in the Gusii region.

“We have before us a rare and historic opportunity to make every part of our country truly prosperous.

“In Kisii, we are rolling out transformative investments: 15,000 affordable housing units worth Ksh30 billion, Ksh2.5 billion in modern tertiary student hostels, and four state-of-the-art markets valued at Ksh2.4 billion,” he said.

Ruto also stated that Nyamira County would benefit significantly from government investments.

“In Nyamira, we are driving equally bold change through life-changing projects worth over Ksh16 billion: 7,000 housing units, student hostels, and three modern markets that will anchor trade and economic growth,” he added.

Highlighting infrastructure as a key driver of prosperity, Ruto pointed out the importance of expanding electricity access in both Kisii and Nyamira.

“Over 32,000 homesteads across Kisii and Nyamira will also be connected to reliable electricity, unlocking commerce, enabling industries, and giving our people the tools to thrive,” he further said.
