President Ruto Hosts Senegalese President Diomaye Faye at State House

President William Ruto on Tuesday, October 21, hosted his Senegalese counterpart Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye at State House, Nairobi.

The two leaders held bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation and shared aspirations between Kenya and Senegal.

President Faye arrived in the country on Sunday, October 19, and was received by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The Senegalese President was the chief guest during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County on Monday, October 20, which was attended by thousands of Kenyans.

In his address, President Faye expressed his condolences on behalf of the people of Senegal on the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“I would like first to take this opportunity to renew the heartfelt condolences of the people of Senegal to the brotherly people of Kenya on the passing of Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minister and a great leader in the political history of Kenya. I pay tribute to the memory and express my deep compassion to President Ruto, to his family, and to the people of Kenya. May his soul rest in peace,” said Faye.

The Senegalese President also celebrated Kenyan heroes who fought for the country’s freedom and liberation.

Faye added that he was keen on paying tribute to victims of slavery, colonialism, and past injustices.

“I am deeply committed to the duty of remembrance; our heroes deserve all honour, respect, and admiration. The celebration of Kenyan heroes who risked their lives fighting for the independence of the country is a great tribute that commands respect and pride,” President Faye added.
