President William Ruto and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga will chair the first United Democratic Alliance (UDA)–Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) joint Parliamentary Group meeting this Tuesday morning.
The two leaders have invited their respective party MPs to the forum, which will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi from 10am.
The joint PG meeting will serve as a follow-up to the inaugural joint session held on August 18, 2025, which was attended by President Ruto and ODM founder, the late Raila Odinga.
The joint PG will, among other things, receive the 10-Point Agenda Report and deliberate on the policy implications of the resolutions contained in the report.
The meeting will also be used to discuss other emerging national matters and parliamentary priorities within the framework of the Broad-Based Government, according to the invitation sent to MPs.
“All Members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are hereby invited to attend the Broad-Based Parliamentary Group Meeting in line with the resolutions from the ODM PG held at Parliament Buildings on 03/03/2026,” an invitation to ODM MPs signed by Leader of Minority Junet Mohamed reads in part.
It adds: “Your attendance and participation will be highly appreciated as we work collectively toward constructive dialogue and effective parliamentary collaboration.”
The PG was originally scheduled to be held before March 7, but plans were shelved following the death of Johanna Ng’eno, MP for Emurua Dikirr.
“The committee has remained diligent to its mandate and deliverables. The status report is ready for submission,” the Agnes Zani-led team said.
The meeting comes at a time when ODM is facing internal turmoil and divisions that have seen Raila Odinga’s party split into two groups pushing for parallel agendas.
Dr. Oburu is leading the Linda Ground faction, which includes other top leaders such as party chairperson Gladys Wanga and two deputy party leaders, Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.
On the other hand, Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and one of the three deputy party leaders, Godfrey Osotsi, are leading the Linda Wananchi faction that is opposed to supporting Ruto’s re-election.
The Sifuna team, which is made up mainly of youthful MPs, has indicated that it will not attend today’s joint PG, which will be used to endorse a planned coalition arrangement between the two parties.
Already, ODM has given a 90-day notice, as required by law, to exit the Azimio La Umoja–One Kenya Coalition and pave the way for its pact with UDA.
Dr. Oburu has told members worried about ODM’s intention to enter negotiations with UDA and other like-minded parties to “hold their horses” and stop making unnecessary pronouncements at social gatherings.
