President William Ruto has vowed to donate Sh5 million to AIC Kipkorgot Sunday School, emphasizing the critical role of religious education in building the nation’s character.
Speaking passionately, Ruto highlighted the importance of Sunday school as a foundation for future citizens, stating, “That is the place we lay a firm foundation for the future citizens of Kenya.”
The President’s announcement came during a sermon at Kipkorgot AIC Church, where he urged religious leaders to instill strong moral values in children. “If we can give a solid character foundation to our children, we will reduce incidents of femicide, drug abuse, and crime,” he proclaimed.
This pledge follows a controversial moment last month when the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi rejected a donation from Ruto.
Despite donating Sh600,000 to the church choir and promising additional funds for construction projects, Bishop Philip Anyolo returned the donation, citing a directive from the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops aimed at preventing political interference in church affairs.
During his address, Ruto also called on parents to take responsibility for their children’s upbringing, insisting that the government cannot replace parental guidance.
“Our priority as parents is to take care of our children,” he said, urging mothers and fathers to lead by example and steer their children away from harmful influences.
