President William Ruto has today reaffirmed the government’s dedication to empowering women and girls, emphasizing that their prosperity is key to national development.

In a video message released marking International Women’s Day, Ruto highlighted that the government’s efforts extend beyond addressing inequality and justice to fostering inclusive growth.

“On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering women and girls not just as a matter of inequality and justice but as a driving force of a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous society,” he stated.

Ruto emphasized that his administration is working to break barriers, expand opportunities, and create an environment where women and girls can thrive.

He also acknowledged the crucial role of women in leadership, business, and innovation.

However, his government has faced criticism over gender representation in the Cabinet, with only seven out of 22 positions held by women—falling short of the promised 50% parity.

Despite this, Ruto reassured Kenyans of his commitment to increasing gender inclusivity in leadership.

As the country marked International Women’s Day, the president called on all Kenyans to support women’s empowerment, ensuring that every woman and girl has the opportunity to realize their full potential.
