President Ruto Revokes Appointment of Consolidated Bank Board Chair

President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of Charles Muriuki Njagagua as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Consolidated Bank of Kenya.

In a gazette notice dated October 3, the Head of State said the revocation takes effect immediately.

Njagagua, who served for nearly three years, has been cleared to contest the Mbeere North parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-elections.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1)(a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of Charles Muriuki Njagagua as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Consolidated Bank,” read the notice.

Njagagua was appointed to the role on February 10, 2023, following his defeat in the 2022 General Election to Geoffrey Ruku, now the Public Service Cabinet Secretary.

His removal comes barely a month after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s announcement unveiling Njagagua as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Mbeere North by-election.

During the unveiling on September 6, UDA Deputy Party Leader and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said eight other aspirants had agreed to step down in Njagagua’s favour, citing party unity.

“As a party, we are delighted that all our aspirants have agreed to endorse one candidate. This shows the strength of our democracy and unity of purpose,” Kindiki said during the event.

“We are grateful to Njagagua for his selflessness. He will head the secretariat coordinating our campaign efforts across the constituency,” he added.
