President Ruto Terms A Landmark Court Ruling As Ridiculous

Consequently, the President announced that the government would move to propose changes to the law which he stated would recognize remote jobs and working from home.

President William Ruto in a speech during the Youth Connekt in Nairobi criticized a court ruling requiring Kenyans working for foreign organizations to obtain appointment letters.

Speaking at the Youth Connect Africa Summit 2023 in Nairobi, the Head of State stated, without mentioning the court that issued the ruling, that Kenyans were more interested in receiving salaries than appointment letters.

He stated that the ruling was ridiculous and was based on current laws that did not recognize the changes that technology had brought to the workplace.

“We have a very interesting case in Court where the court has ruled that if you are working in Nairobi for a company in the US, you must get an appointment from the company in the US.

“Do you know how ridiculous that is? Are you interested in a letter of appointment or are you interested in working and earning a salary?” he posed.

Consequently, the President announced that the government would move to propose changes to the law which he stated would recognize remote jobs and working from home.
