The government has yet to make a final decision on the fate of Grade Six pupils who are scheduled to take national examinations under the Competent Based Curriculum (CBC) system later this month.
President William Ruto, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, will announce in December whether the pioneer CBC class will proceed to junior secondary or continue to the next grade in their respective primary schools.
“One of the areas we are working on is the transition of Grade Six students to junior secondary schools, and I am confident that the presidential working party will be able to provide his Excellency with an initial report within the terms of reference in six months. The exams begin on November 28, and a major announcement will be made in December, either when I announce the Grade 6 examination results or before his Excellency the President knows what Kenyans want and makes a pronouncement,” said the CS.
Mr Machogu spoke at a public engagement convened by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, led by Rev. Prof Stephen Mbugua of the Catholic University of East Africa, in Nanyuki Town, Laikipia County, on Friday (CUEA).
The President-appointed taskforce, which includes educationists, is seeking input from Kenyans on the reforms they want the government to implement to improve the education sector.
