President William Ruto is expected to officiate the opening ceremony of the African Chiefs of Defence Conference 2025 (ACHOD25) in Nairobi today. The high-level gathering brings together military leaders from across the continent to discuss and strategize on pressing security challenges facing Africa.
ACHOD serves as a premier platform for defence chiefs to engage in dialogue, exchange knowledge, and forge partnerships aimed at strengthening regional stability and enhancing collective security. This year’s conference marks only the second time it is being held on African soil, highlighting the growing importance of African-led defence collaboration.
The forum is expected to address a range of issues, including terrorism, transnational crime, peacekeeping operations, and capacity building among member states. With geopolitical dynamics constantly evolving, ACHOD25 presents a crucial opportunity for African military leaders to align on unified approaches to safeguard the continent.
In a related development, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will today host the National Defence College (NDC) graduation ceremony in Karen, Nairobi. Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya will preside over the event, which marks the successful completion of a one-year Grade 1 course.
The graduating cohort includes officers from the Kenya Defence Forces, allied foreign militaries, and personnel from various ministries and state departments, reflecting the NDC’s commitment to integrated defence education and leadership development.
Both events underscore Kenya’s growing role in shaping regional security policy and fostering strategic defence cooperation across Africa.
