President Ruto To Spearhead Gas Pipeline Deal

President William Ruto and his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu on Monday, October 10, agreed to allow Tanzanian gas into Kenya.

During a joint press conference at State House in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, both Heads of State agreed to build on the foundation laid by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta by eliminating trade barriers and enhancing regional cooperation.

The two presidents also agreed that they would expedite the process of constructing a Ksh100 billion gas pipeline from Dar es Salaam to Mombasa.

“We had signed with Uhuru but Ruto has told me that it will be the first agenda between his administration and ours,” Suluhu stated.

According to Ruto, the agreement will see a gas pipeline from Mtwara to Dar es Salaam connected to Mombasa and Nairobi.

Ruto called upon the stakeholders to expedite the process of lowering the cost of living to enable the citizens to use the oil for both commercial and domestic purposes.

“We have agreed that those stakeholders involved will expedite the process so that we can use the resources in our region to lower the energy tariffs, both for industries and commercial purposes, domestic use for the benefit of our people,” he pointed out.

Ruto said that his government will be committed to ensuring the project is done promptly, efficiently and effectively.

“In the shortest time possible, we can access the gas resources that you have in your country to drive industrialisation in our country.

“I am confident that as the ministers get down to work, they will provide a brief to you and me to fastrack the project,” he said.
