President Ruto: Uniting With Raila’s Backyard Is The Will Of God

Bungoma, Kenya – President William Ruto has expressed optimism and gratitude following his recent visit to Nyanza, a region historically considered a stronghold of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking at a church service in Bungoma on Sunday, Ruto highlighted the transformative power of unity, calling the newfound camaraderie between political rivals a near “miracle.”

Reflecting on his four-day development tour of Nyanza, which concluded on Saturday, Ruto noted the significant shift in reception from previous visits, when hostility marked his presence in the region. “I have just come from a trip in Nyanza and it is amazing what God can do. It is almost miraculous that those who were on extreme sides a few months ago are now speaking as though we are long-time brothers and sisters,” he said.

The President’s remarks come on the heels of strategic political moves, including the appointment of opposition members into his cabinet, which Ruto believes has contributed to the warming of relations. “That is the beauty of our country, that when circumstances demand, we close ranks and forge alliances for the greater good,” he added, emphasizing the importance of unity in nation-building.

During his visit, Ruto engaged with local leaders and constituents, receiving a surprisingly warm welcome in traditionally opposition-dominated areas like Kisumu. This shift is seen as a testament to his commitment to building bridges and fostering collaboration across political divides—a theme he reiterated in Bungoma.

“I will do everything within my power to unite this country,” Ruto proclaimed, vowing to work closely with all leaders and citizens, regardless of their political affiliations. He underscored that this inclusive approach aligns with the Kenyan Constitution, which champions equality and unity among its people.

In response to this evolving political landscape, Ruto called on all Kenyans to embrace cooperation and mutual respect.

“It is the will of God that we all work together. I promise to work for all the people of Kenya, without discrimination and exclusion. That is the mandate of government as provided by our Constitution,” he stated.
