President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna over his recent remarks on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), reminding him of his seniority and founding role in the party.
Speaking on Saturday during the burial service of George Nyang’ira Oduor in Siaya County, Ruto addressed Sifuna’s assertions about his authority as ODM Secretary General, urging the senator to show restraint when commenting about the Head of State and the party’s affairs.
“I was one of the founding members of ODM. If necessary, I can convene a meeting of all original founders to take disciplinary action against you,” President Ruto cautioned.
The Head of State’s remarks appeared to respond directly to comments made by Sifuna in recent days regarding internal party matters and Ruto’s relationship with opposition figures.
President Ruto also used the occasion to highlight the importance of the current government’s broad-based approach, which he said has been instrumental in promoting national inclusivity and eliminating ethnic divisions in leadership.
“The broad-based government we are running has ensured that all communities are represented. We have removed the politics of exclusion and tribalism,” Ruto said.
The President’s comments come amid ongoing political realignments and discussions surrounding bipartisan cooperation between the government and the opposition, particularly with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
