During her campaign in Mtwara on Friday, President Samia Suluhu Hassan pledged to strengthen Tanzania’s journey of inclusive growth and dignity, assuring citizens of continued expansion of opportunities across key sectors.
Speaking to thousands of supporters, President Samia pointed to progress already made in infrastructure, agriculture, and social services, saying her government’s efforts were beginning to ease daily life in many communities. She cited road construction, wider electricity access, and expanded water projects as visible results of her leadership.
On agriculture, she described the sector as the backbone of Tanzania’s future, highlighting a dramatic rise in production in recent years. Pigeon peas output increased from 5,700 tonnes in 2020 to more than 529,000 tonnes in 2024, while sesame production grew from 5,100 tonnes to nearly 600,000 tonnes.
She pledged continued support for farmers through subsidized inputs, modern machinery, extension services, and the establishment of agro-processing industries to increase value addition locally.
Samia also promised to strengthen transport corridors linking southern Tanzania with neighbouring countries such as Mozambique and Malawi, saying better road networks would open new opportunities for cross-border trade and investment.
In education and health, the President pointed to new schools, upgraded health centres, steady supplies of medicines, and the recruitment of teachers and medical staff as signs of her government’s commitment to improving services. She further promised greater investment in youth empowerment through entrepreneurship programs, vocational training, and digital innovation.
“Our young people must be equipped with the right skills and opportunities to drive nation building from agribusiness to digital technology,” she said.
Closing her address, President Samia urged voters to give her another mandate, insisting that while much progress had been made, the journey was not complete.
“Much has been achieved, but there is still more to be done. I ask for your support so that together we can continue building a Tanzania of growth and dignity,” she told the supporters.
