President Uhuru Condemns Raila Attack

President Uhuru Kenyatta reiterated his call for peace in the country condemning an attack on ODM Leader Raila Odinga.

During a church service at AIC Pipeline in Nairobi on Sunday, the Head of State urged Kenyans, to exercise political tolerance during the electioneering period.

“What if Raila was injured in that attack? Kenya would have been on fire right now and that is not what we want.”

He urged competitors to observe peace during their campaigns, reiterating that violence will not solve anything.

“Kupiga mtu na mawe ama mshale ni kupotea njia… Kwa uchaguzi kuna wenye watashinda na kushindwa, mwenye ameshinda asherekee akijua kuwa ata yule ambaye alishindwa ni ndugu yake.”

Uhuru urged Kenyans to maintain respect and love among one another because elections come and go, but everyone remains a citizen of the country.

“No one has ever sent an application to be born in a certain country or tribe. Please remember that elections come and go and just as we have had elections after every five years, this one will pass,” he noted.

Following the attack on Odinga’s helicopter and vehicles in his convoy in Uasin Gishu, seventeen people have been arrested.

Three politicians; Soy MP Caleb Kositany, his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi and Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat have been summoned over the incident.
