President Uhuru has finally appointed the Judicial Service Commission’s recommended seven appellate judges.
The announcement was made by the president in a gazette notice dated July 19, 2022.
The seven Judges are; Abida Ali Aroni, Grace Wangui, John Mativo, Fredrick Ochieng, Lydia Achode, Paul Mwaniki, and Luka Kimaru.
After completing the vetting process, the JSC recommended the appointment of the judges on July 13. The list of the said number of Judges was forwarded to the president for approval.
“After lengthy deliberate and careful consideration of the various candidates’ performance, and based on the Constitutional imperatives of merit, gender, regional balance, affirmative action, and public interest, 13 candidates were recommended for the position of Court of Appeal Judges” Chief Justice Martha Koome said in a statement.
The idea for the appointment of the Judges was to address the understaffed challenge in the Courts of Appeal across the Country.
A challenge that has negatively affected the Judiciary in addressing backlogs in various Court stations.
